Skanda Shashti Mahotsavam - 24/10/14 to 30/10/14

Pooja And Festival :

The main shrine - Lord Muruga with Valli and Devasena :

Thai Poosam during January – February month is celebrated as a 6-day festival. Spiritual discourses by learned scholars and/or music concerts by popular artists from South or from Mumbai are organized. On Thai Poosam day, Kavadis and Palkudams are taken by devotees in procession around Chhedanagar. Special Abhishekams are performed to the Moolavar and Utsavar. Annadhanam is provided to all devotees participating in the functions. In the night, Lord Muruga is taken in procession accompanied by Nadaswaram, Veda Parayanam around Chhedanagar.

On Vaikasi Visakam day, (during May –June month), Kavadis and Palkudams are taken by devotees in procession around Chhedanagar. Special Abhishekams are performed to the Moolavar and Utsavar. Annadhanam is provided to all devotees participating in the functions. In the night, Lord Muruga is taken in procession accompanied by Nadaswaram, Veda Parayanam around Chhedanagar.

Skanda Sashti during October-November month is celebrated as a 6-day festival. Spiritual discourses by learned scholars and/or music concerts by popular artists from South or from Mumbai are organized. On Skanda Sashti Day, Kavadis and Palkudams are taken by devotees in procession around Chhedanagar. Special Abhishekams are performed to the Moolavar and Utsavar. Annadhanam is provided to all devotees participating in the functions. In the night, Lord Muruga is taken in procession accompanied by Nadaswaram, Veda Parayanam around Chhedanagar.

Similar to Thiruchendur in South India, Soora Samharam is performed in our Tempe as well. After receiving the blessings and the VEL from Goddess Durga, Lord Muruga is taken in procession in the four streets encircling the temple. Thousands of devotees witness the occasion with religious ferver and enthusiasm. Abhishekams to the Lord and the Vel are performed after the Samharam.

Panguni Uthiram festival is celebrated as ‘Brahmotsavam” for 10 days. Special yagashala is set up and poojas are performed in the mornings as well as in the evenings. Lord Muruga with His consort is taken in procession both in the morning and evening outside the temple. In the evenings, the procession winds through the four maon streets of Chhedanagar. Each day, the Lord is seated on special Vahanams and decorated beautifully with garlands, flowers and focus lights. Brahmothsavma concludes on Panguni Utthiram Day. On that day, Kavadis and Palkudams are taken by devotees in procession around Chhedanagar. Special Abhishekams are performed to the Moolavar and Utsavar. Annadhanam is provided to all devotees participating in the functions. In the night, Lord Muruga is taken in procession accompanied by Nadaswaram, Veda Parayanam around Chhedanagar.

On monthly Sashti and Krithigai days, special Abhishekams and Poojas are performed.

On monthly Krithikai days, devotees recite Thirupugazh.

January 26 is another important day in the festivals of the temple. “PADI VIZHA” (Festival of Steps) is celebrated on that day. Devotees get together and climb the 108 steps to reach the shrine singing one Thirupugazh verse for each step. Abhishekam, special poojas and mass feeding for the poor are conducted on that day.

Siddhi Vinayakar :

At this shrine, Ganapathi Homam” is performed every day. In the month of Aadi (Ashad), large number of devotees perform Ganapathi Homam. On the Vinayaka Chathurthi day “Sahasra Modaga Maha Ganapathi Homam” is performed.

At the entrance to the temple also, there is a small shrine for Vinayakar. He is called “Dwara Vinayakar”. Regular Poojas and decorations are done to this Vinayakar also.

Vishnu Durga :

During Aadi (karkadatkam) month, Devi Mahatmya Parayanam on all days by devotees.

During Navaratri, on all the nine days,”Nava Chandi Homam” is performed. During the Tamil months of Aadi and Thai and on Fridays special poojas are performed for Devi. Devi is also taken out in procession.
